Early Birds on Saturday morning: So far, so good!

This weekend, Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th November 2016, the organisers at Antiques and Vintage Fairs are debuting a brand new fair: The Windsor Antiques and Collectables Fair.

This is not just a little local fair: the exhibitor list contains well-known dealers coming from Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne, The Hunter, The Southern Highlands, regional New South Wales and regional Victoria. According to the organisers, they have already received enquiries and request for places in 2017 from prestigious dealers in other states who couldn’t make it to the inaugural.

Of course, in this case, the proof of the pudding is in the buying. Will antiques buffs come down to take a look, and will collectors actually spend money?

Top names from around the country are taking a gamble and bringing some of their best fine and decorative art including  china and prestige ceramics, silver, glassware, art glass, furniture, jewellery, boys’ toys,  dolls, teddy bears, militaria, kitsch – you name it, you can probably find it. There will be a few mid-tier dealers as well, so the range of goods on offer is extensive: from affordable collectables to rare items from famous makers, and unique and hard-to-find pieces to complete specialist collections.

But is there enough support in the area for a serious antiques fair? Activity on the Antiques and Vintage Fair’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/antiquesandvintagefairs/suggests that the Hawkesbury region is both willing and eager, with antiques aficionados declaring both their intention of coming to the inaugural and their hopes that the Fair will become an annual event. And a morning queue with 85 visitors in the first 15 minutes augers well. Will the momentum continue? We’ll see.

Ulverstone Antiques Fair

Ulverstone Rowing Club girls training 25 August 2015

Word is that the inaugural Ulverstone Antiques Fair is going very well indeed.

The Ulverstone Rowing Club have established the fair as a fundraiser. It seems there’s been a good influx of young people joining the Club, and they need more boats!

The Ulverstone Rowing Club have been working very hard at promotion, and antiques dealers such as Kevin Dahya (Grange Antiques), Mick Smith (Michael L. Smith Antiques) and The Currys (Antiques and Vintage Fairs) have pitched in to help with publicity. The children of the Ulverstone Rowing Club Juniors, the intended beneficiaries, have been volunteering all weekend. The Club has high hopes of making the Antiques Fair an annual event.

Saturday had a strong showing with about 500 through the door; a very good inaugural for a regional fair.

The Ulverstone Antiques Fair 2015 continues through 4pm Sunday.
